Allahabad also means “settled by God” in Persian, is a name given by the Mughals to the ancient city of Prayag by some accounts the second oldest city of India. It is in the North Indian state of Uttar Pradesh and is the administrative headquarters of the Allahabad District. Allahabad is one of the fastest growing cities in India at present.

The ancient name of the city is Prayag which means in Sanskrit as “place of sacrifice”, as it is believed to be the spot where Brahma offered his first sacrifice after creating the world. It holds a crucial position in Hindu scriptures as it is situated at Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the holy rivers Ganges and Yamuna, and the ancient Sarasvati River.
